Character Profile - Eira
May. 27th, 2019 11:47 pm A fitting introduction to our story is the most popular character herself, Eira.
If I ran a popularity poll of all my characters, most of them would be a "who the hell is this person?", but Eira would be at the top. She's the one everyone knows, and if you ever find any of my social media other than this blog, you'll find she's my de-facto mascot. Unfortunately, I didn't find her art to be quite fitting for this blog's icon.
So, who is she? What are her origins?
Here's the basics. Eira is the Mage Knight Commander of Milyra. AKA, she's a mage combined with a knight, and she commands the Mage Knights. She's got some of the best magical capabilities on the continent, and many people seek her out to study under her as a student.
She actually started out as a Fire Emblem custom character named Mizu. Oh, how times have changed... But she still has her roots there. If you google "Camus archetype", you'll see a lot of similarities. But now she's completely different, so that's always fun.
What's her personality like?
Eira is cold, calculating, uncaring, and quite the harsh commander. But, this is all a front she puts up in order to push people away. In actuality, she cares quite a bit about the Mage Knights, especially her students, who she hand-picks from hundreds of applicants. After some good old-fashioned childhood trauma backstory, she finds it hard to trust people and actually become friends with them. So she puts up the whole cold persona so people stay away from her.
Also, she's pretty intelligent. She figured out so many things before even her counterpart, the Knight Commander Roman. Her intellect actually ends up being her downfall, but we'll get to that... later.
What's her backstory?
I'm gonna go over the basics because it is currently 1 AM as of writing this and god do I not wanna go into that right now. (Update: it is now 10 PM on another day but you can still tell I am tired)
So, Eira and her younger sister were born. Shortly after the birth of her younger sister, her father ends up going AWOL. When she's about seven, her mother ends up dying of disease. Her sister is put up for adoption and separated from Eira, who is found to have an overwhelming aptitude with magic. Her sister had no such luck.
She trains with two mages, the first a talented tutor named Eva. The second being the (at the time) Mage Knight Commander, Damien. He ends up selecting her to become his heir, as it turns out, he actually knew her mother. Kinda the main reason he even chose to teach her. So, Damien teaches her everything he knows, and she succeeds him as Mage Knight Commander.
Eira does a pretty good job at it. She ends up marrying a man named Ezra, but it isn't out of love - she met him during her training, and he wanted to become a Milyrian knight. There's a pretty strict rule in place where knights must be citizens of Milyra, and in order for him to become a citizen, Eira offers to marry him. She's in love with the other Knight Commander, Roman, though.
Also she has two students, Laurence and Marx. Like Damien before her, she's teaching them all she knows. Marx is the one appointed to be her heir at Laurence's request, as he felt he couldn't be the leader.
But, as said before, Eira had quite the keen intellect. She figured out that the religious sect in the country, the Church of Kithir, was experimenting on the populace with treatments that had never been tested before. When the King of Milyra, King Corrois, and the High Priestess of Kithir, Queen Freja, found out that she knew, she was promptly executed.
Yeah, that's grim. So let's lighten the mood a little.
Anything else?
Here's the classic Eira joke. She's the type of character to pull into McDonalds with her students in the back of the car, with them all screaming, "MCDONALDS! MCDONALDS! MCDONALDS!" All she orders is a small black coffee to the disappointment of everyone else. None of them like straight black coffee. No child wants black coffee from McDonalds.
That's how I first introduced her character to my friends. She then proceeded to get about 5 pieces of fanart and now everyone loves her. Also, if you got that reference, congratulations. You get internet points!
