Been a while, huh?

I thought I might make this an extra-special blog post and summarise… everything regarding my current project here. There’ll be a changelog, a Q&A, an explanation of my madness, all that fun stuff. We’ll cap it off with a quick art share, too.

List of changes (Japanese 101)

Added Follow the Steps/Personalise

Edited spelling of “Personalise” to follow British English

Changed colour of Discover to be less of an eyesore

Follow the Steps is now blue, and Personalise is now purple to represent “bringing Discover and Follow the Steps together”

Refined grammar, changed wording around

Still have not added recording, was unable to fit that in

Note: You might find it hard to do the packet due to some weird formatting with the pictures and such. That one’s my bad, I chose to make this presentation “pretty” over “functional” in regards to imagery. Since this is a theoretical “what it should look like”, I’m sure SelfDesign could come up with a way to get them to stay without having to resort to weird methods like I did.

Note 2: The Japanese 101 course has two “versions” - the one uploaded for sharing to my classmates is a comparatively unfinished version to the Personal Project one. This is because I had to split the document in order to get it to show up (one on my SelfDesign account and one on my personal), which made it hard to keep ping-ponging between the two. Please refer to the Personal Project version for marking purposes.

My Project Reasoning (Part 2)

I’d like to refer back to my original Project Reasoning document because I feel like that one is still incredibly relevant, and it saves me time by not having to reiterate what I’ve already said.

This project was, essentially, made to show how a quality challenge with multiple learning resources can be created in a short amount of time. I think, when you put all the work I did on this challenge into one sitting (as I did it in short bursts due to middling motivation to do anything), it took me nine-ish hours? It’s not hard to collect a bunch of resources. It’s not hard to make it appealing for most people.

Q&A Time

Q: What is something you wished to include?

Voice recordings. I really wanted to include voice recordings (and a tutorial with the PDF, though I’m afraid that still isn’t working), but I just didn’t have the time due to… a lot. It was just a lot.

Q: How did you demonstrate your prototype making skills?

I made a prototype. Yay.

Q: Where do you think you went above and beyond?

I think just… making the full challenge was what went above and beyond, honestly. This entire thing felt like a culmination of all my Japanese learning (so far, at least!) and I’m proud of it. I’m literally so proud of it that I had multiple people check it over, I consulted with the same people who helped to make the Discover section so good, and… yeah.

Q: Why make this instead of your game prototype?

Because I wanted to, and the game prototype ran into a lot of unexpected (mainly pandemic related) issues.

Q: How is this involved with English 12?

You may see below that I want this marked with English 12. It’s mainly because, well… I kinda wanna just show off my Japanese 101 thing? But it also has some nice English in there. Maybe not creative writing, but it’s certainly the English language.

Q: Any additional comments?

This project connects with English 12 and I’d like for it to be graded there too. Nothing much else to say, honestly.

Oh, and here’s some art. No context, just thought it might be nice to share some sketches I didn’t get to during the school year.

And... yeah, that about wraps this entire thing up. I honestly wish I had more to say, but I'm very, very burnt out at this point. I'm gonna retire out in the Maldives or something after all that, get a nice cabana on the beach and forget about life's troubles.

This blog might get occasional updates with things I'm interested in... maybe. Who knows. I'll probably just forget about it and then remember it exists in 10 years, get a wave of nostalgia and cringe at my past self. I'm calling it right now.
